A moment in time expressed in three dimensions.
We have created a sculptural lighting centrepiece for the resident’s lobby of Shard Place. The design was informed by a sound recording of London bridge rush hour outside of the Shard Place building, the soundwave was smoothed out to create a softened form to give the residents a relaxing transition between the outside world and home. As a design studio Haberdashery looks to develop a sense of engagement through layers of narrative-informed design on micro and macro scales using light as a medium.
Depending on the viewing angle the sculpture can be read quite differently. From an end-on-approach the sculpture can appear quite solid, whereas from directly underneath or from out on the street the sculpture has a more lightweight translucent appearance. Dappled light created by the myriad of apertures throughout the sculptural form spreads out over wall and floor surfaces to help inform and celebrate the surrounding material choices made by interior designers State of Craft. Our work is most successful when it intelligently references the language of its surroundings.
