Measuring 4m x 4m x 2.8m, U13/U14 was commissioned by Selfridges&Co. to be displayed at their concept store window on the corner of Oxford Street and Orchard Street. We developed over 73 different maquette form explorations that lead to the final sculpture. The finished work is comprised of 653 pieces of reclaimed Victorian timber from the floors of East London merchant houses clad in a live-edged perspex, the work forms an intentionally discordant message; both celebrating of the bold energy of the modern metropolis and questioning of the foundation upon which it is built. U14 was installed within the fantastic Old Truman Brewery space, and explored the various configurations possible with this modular structure inspired by the city grid and its ambition for vertical growth.
